Regina Hartley: Why the Best Hire might not have the Perfect Resume
When it comes to choosing “the right one for the job”, most of us would think that “the right one” is the candidate with the perfect resume. After all, isn’t that why we all want to go to the right school, get the right internship, ask certain professors for recommendations? We all want the perfect resume to get the perfect job.
In this TedTalk, “Why the Best Hire Might Not Have the Perfect Resume”, Regina Hartley makes the argument that the candidate who does not look all that great on paper may just be the one you want to hire. “Scrappers” as she calls them have gone through life experiences that have resulted in a growth and transformation that some scientists call posttraumatic growth. As a result, “scrappers” tend to believe that the only ones who will prevent them from success are themselves and are determined to overcome the next struggle.
Agree? Disagree? What are some of your thoughts on the topic? Who is the best candidate for the job?
