"While finding the cure for this [Alzheimer's] disease is the ultimate goal, there are other areas in which money can be spent to help ease the inconveniences Alzheimer's disease brings."
Jasmine Spears received her undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Campbell University. Jasmine is from Fort Washington in Maryland and is going to be earning her M.S. in Biotechnology at Georgetown's Biomedical Graduate Education.
Why did you choose Biomedical Graduate Education at Georgetown University?
I chose the Biomedical Graduate Education Program at Georgetown because of the unique biotechnology curriculum. I was intrigued by the combination of the technical science and business aspects in biotechnology. Being able to apply yourself in both aspects of the Biotechnology industry is a great asset and makes for a well rounded candidate when going into the workforce. I feel as if the skills, connections, and knowledge I will gain during my time at Georgetown is unparalleled to any other university or program.
As a DMV Hoyas Biomedical Academic scholarship recipient, you were selected because your application "demonstrated a commitment to biomedical research and graduate studies at the Masters' level." What do you hope to accomplish here at Georgetown and/or what is your interest in biomedical research or graduate studies?
I hope to gain a better understanding of how to apply myself to both the business and science areas of the biotechnology industry. I am interested in research and development of drug products, specifically vaccines. So during my time here I hope to gain experience and knowledge through hands on learning and the program's capstone internship on how I can direct my skills to the research and development area in vaccines.
What is your favorite thing about and/or to do in the DMV area?
My favorite thing about the DMV area is its proximity to everything you could possibly want to see, do, or eat. I also think its cool to be able to say I live near the nation's capital.
