Graduate School of Arts & Sciences & Biomedical Graduate Education Commencement Ceremony Location: Healy Lawn
BGE Commencement Reception Location: Leavey Center Ballroom

7:30 am Graduating students report to assigned room locations in White-Gravenor Hall, Intercultural Center (ICC), and Copley Formal Lounge in Copley Hall (allow time for transportation, traffic jams, parking, and walking to your lineup rooms). Students should report to their assigned rooms no later than 7:30 am.
 
Final reporting rooms/locations will be emailed out and posted in early May on the Graduate School Commencement webpage.
8:30 am Graduating students process in formation to Healy Lawn.
9:00am Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and Biomedical Graduate Education Commencement Ceremony begins.
 
Tickets are not required for Commencement. Seating will be available on a first come, first seated basis.
11:00 am BGE Commencement Reception will begin directly after the commencement ceremony. The reception will be at the Leavey Center Ballroom.

BGE Commencement Reception

Please join BGE graduates and faculty at the BGE Commencement Reception directly after the commencement ceremony for a special recognition of BGE graduates and families. The reception will be held at the Leavey Center Ballroom.

PhD and Doctoral Hooding Ceremony

Join BGE PhD graduates at the PhD and Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in Gaston Hall.

Directions and Parking

Parking in the Southwest Quad or offsite at the Harris Building – Drivers MUST tell the parking booth attendant that they are here for the Graduate School Commencement Ceremony; otherwise, the attendant will charge you and your guests for parking. Parking on and near the Georgetown campus is extremely limited. You are encouraged to use mass transit or taxicabs to the Healy Gate at 37th and O Streets, N.W., if at all possible. The general University Commencement website provides some very important information about parking and transportation during Commencement week. Please note that there is no overnight parking.

Handicap Accessibility at Commencement

At the Main Graduate School Commencement Ceremony

At the Main Graduate School Commencement Ceremony, there will be reserved seating for handicapped guests. 1 attendant can accompany the handicapped guest in the reserved seating area (others guests should take seats in the general seating areas). Wheelchairs are available by advance reservation or may be rented on a first-come-first-served basis the day of Commencement. Please contact Amanda Ruthven at the Graduate School (with SUBJ: Accessibility) as soon as possible to directly request and reserve seating and/or a wheelchair to use.

Handicap Accessible Shuttle Service

Handicap accessible shuttle service will be available throughout commencement weekend. The shuttle map and schedule will be posted closer to commencement. Please check back at a later time.

Rain Plan

The rain site for the 2018 Graduate School Commencement is McDonough Arena. All graduates are to report directly to the white tent in front of McDonough Arena at 7:30 am for the lineup in the event of a rain announcement. The official line-up instructions, a campus map with the commencement locations, and shuttle route map will be posted in spring 2018.

In the event of inclement weather, the University will make an announcement at 6:00 a.m. the morning of commencement day on the Georgetown University Commencement page and students will be notified via email right away. Rain announcements will also be available through our University Weather line at (202) 687-SNOW.

Commencement Photography

We ask that you remind your family and guests that they may not approach the stage during any part of the Main Graduate Commencement Ceremony to take photos. The time for family photographs will be at the Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE) Commencement Reception.

A professional photographer from GradImages will be taking pictures during the Main Graduate Commencement Ceremony. These photos will be available for purchase from GradImages afterward. Contact GradImags at (800) 261-2576 for more information.

Check-in Robing and Lineup

Final reporting rooms/locations will be emailed out and posted in early May on the Graduate School Commencement webpage. Students will be reporting rooms and locations in either White-Gravenor Hall, Intercultural Center (ICC), and Copley Formal Lounge in Copley Hall.

All commencement participants are to report to their assigned room no later than 7:30 am on Friday, May 18, 2018.

Academic Regalia

All graduates participating in Commencement are required to wear the appropriate academic regalia - gown, hood, cap, and tassel. Students showing up without regalia will not be allowed to participate in the Ceremony. Standard regalia will be available for purchase in the University Bookstore the week of Commencement (Monday – Thursday only, May 14-18, 2018 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.) as well as over the phone (call Jostens at 1-800-548-5452 for more information).

The Bookstore will not be open early enough on Commencement Day, Friday, May 18, 2018, so please have your entire academic regalia purchased and on hand no later than Thursday, May 17, 2018. If you have any other questions about regalia, please see the Graduate School’s academic regalia webpage.

Diploma Information

The diploma dimensions are 17 inches (43 cm) wide by 14 inches(35.5 cm) high. The diploma is written in Latin and an English translation is provided with your diploma. Diploma frames are available at the Georgetown University Bookstore in Leavey Center.
