M.S. in Physiology

Providing the opportunity to become informed about societal issues from leaders who are experts in their field encourages students to use their respective fields to address those issues.

What undergrad school are you from, and what was your major?

I attended Morehouse College, where I received my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry.

Why did you apply to Georgetown University?

I applied to Georgetown University because in addition to the world-class faculty that many universities in the upper echelon of education boast, the opportunity for personal growth at Georgetown is second to none. The university provides opportunities for students to create dialogue with world-class leaders visiting Washington D.C., which few other universities can provide. Providing the opportunity to become informed about societal issues from leaders who are experts in their field encourages students to use their respective fields to address those issues. This was extremely appealing to me, and was the catalyst for my applying to Georgetown University.

What are you studying here at Georgetown University?

I am currently studying to receive my Masters of Science in Physiology.

As a Hoyas for Science recipient, you were selected because your application to Georgetown “demonstrated a commitment to biomedical research and graduate studies at the Masters’ level.” What do you hope to accomplish here at Georgetown and/or what is your interest in biomedical research or graduate studies?

During my time at Georgetown University, I hope to couple my undergraduate education in chemistry and undergraduate research experiences in diabetes and drug packaging with physiology to aid in solving problems that affect human health as a medical physician. During my time as an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to critically think about type 1 diabetes as well as rapamycin packaging for the treatment of B Cell Lymphomas. In addition to learning how to critically think about these issues, I also learned I lacked sufficient knowledge in the understanding of biological function to aid in making an impact in furthering the treatment of human health issues. I hope to gain the necessary understanding during my time at Georgetown, and be equipped with the mental acumen to make an impact in further treatment of human health issues in my career.

Please share an interesting fact about yourself.

Prior to my freshman year of College, I traveled to Austria, Germany, and Italy to perform as a tap dancer. I have been tap dancing since the age of six.
