BGE Rings in the New Year

On January 27th, Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE) hosted its third annual Chinese New Year Celebration.  Over 150 students, faculty, and staff participated in the event to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.  Thanks to the planning committee, our BGE students had the opportunity to engage in various activities, ranging from hand-wrapping dumplings to getting their own Chinese name.

The celebration kicked off with a warm introduction by Caroline Goon, Director of Career Strategy and Professional Development, followed by a beautiful musical performance by MS Biochemistry student, Qianlei Li.  Li wowed the crowd with her rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and a Chinese song, “Horse Racing,” on the erhu (Chinese violin).  The floor then opened up to food and activity stations.  A long table filled with aromatic dishes gave students, faculty, and staff a taste of traditional Chinese New Year food.  The activity stations filled quickly, attracting students’ attention and showcasing their creativity.  The stations included tea sampling, dumpling making, Chinese calligraphy, having your name translated to Chinese, and reaching to see what good fortune the New Year will bring.
