SMP Alumnus Named Oppenheim Endowed Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedics
Ryan Murray (G’10, M’14), an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine, was officially named the William and Patricia Oppenheim Endowed Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedics at a celebration during Georgetown’s medical and dental alumni weekend.

“We’re dealing with a lot of mental health issues in the veteran community,” Eshkevari told FOX 5 DC, including for many patients whose conditions don’t improve with common medications. “You have to kind of switch the script and say, OK, what can we do that will work for these patients who don’t respond to other medications?”

Low-Glutamate Diet Linked to Brain Changes and Migraine Relief in Veterans with Gulf War Illness
Veterans with Gulf War Illness experienced significant improvement in migraine symptoms after following a diet low in glutamate, a component of flavor enhancing food additives commonly found in processed foods, according to new research presented by Georgetown University and American University scientists. Brain scans also revealed decreased cortical thickness in patients on the diet — providing evidence, for the first time, that the improvement in symptoms was linked to measurable changes in the brain.
