Georgetown Neuroscience Students, Graduates Volunteer as Judges at Elementary Science Fair

Georgetown neuroscience doctoral students and graduates exercised their scientific discernment as volunteer judges at Key Elementary School’s science fair. The current and former Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN) members assessed poster presentations by third, fourth and fifth graders and chose award winners.
IPN student Pauline Wonnenberg said: “It was especially exciting to see [the elementary students’] creativity developing through science at such an early stage.”
“This event was a really great way to give back to the local community and empower young scientists,” IPN student Briana Bernstein added.

IPN students find many ways to give back to the community. Students took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September 2025, and every fall they donate to the food drive hosted by the Medical Center Graduate Student Organization (MCGSO).

At New Awards Ceremony, IPN Students Celebrate Contributions to Community and Education
Doctoral students in the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN) spend years together in classes, lab rotations and thesis research. This year, student leaders came up with a new way to celebrate their academic community, introducing an annual awards program to recognize “peers and faculty who embody the values of the IPN, Georgetown, and the Jesuit tradition.”

Student Research Day Celebrates 40th Year at Georgetown
The event featured 18 student presenters from six different BGE programs, all vying for a top placement in the oral and poster presentation competitions. Attendees from across Georgetown gathered in the Medical and Dental Building to hear how their peers are investigating the causes of neurodegenerative diseases, improving cancer screenings and treatment and much more.
