Congratulations Class of 2020! Biomedical Graduate Education

From Dean Riegel to Master’s and Certificate Graduates–Congratulations Class of 2020!

Dear Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education Graduates,

Much has been said over the years about “the best-laid plans” and what inevitably happens to them, and our current life is proving those sayings true. These past few months are not what any of us expected. While I wanted nothing more than to see you recognized for your important accomplishments at commencement, I will now look forward to seeing you and your families at a future in-person ceremony.

During your time at Georgetown, you have proven your adaptability, your resilience, and your dedication. It is my sincere hope that every one of you realizes how truly extraordinary you are. You are well-prepared with the knowledge and skills for which the world is waiting.

The current crisis has reinforced my confidence that biomedical science graduates are exactly what this world needs at this exact moment. You are trained and ready for whatever comes next, and I am confident that your trajectories will continue upward.

If I were saying this before you at commencement, I am sure you would feel my sense of pride in your achievements. In the absence of that, I will simply tell you what I hope you already know: you are needed. Now more than ever, you are vital to the health of our

You will always be a part of Georgetown and Georgetown will always be a part of you. I celebrate all you have accomplished, and I look forward to hearing about your contributions to the health of our future.
