There are many possible sources of funding to help defray the costs of your graduate education. BGE has curated a list of opportunities within Georgetown and from external sources.
Master’s TuitionMerit-Based Aid
Students are encouraged to apply for awards and grants available through Georgetown University, as well as opportunities offered by external organizations.
Supporting Our Community in Changing Times
Georgetown University recognizes the commitment and hopes of civil servants and students as they face challenging governmental shifts. If you are currently working as a federal civil government employee or contractor, or if you separated from federal civil service at any time since April 1, 2024, you qualify for an application fee waiver and 10% tuition discount for BGE master’s programs.
Georgetown undergraduate alumni in the classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025 are also eligible for the application fee waiver and 10% master’s tuition discount. Alumni in these classes who apply to BGE Ph.D. programs will receive the application fee waiver.
BGE Scholarships
BGE offers merit-based scholarships to a limited number of master’s students based on the recommendation of individual programs. Please contact your master’s program regarding merit-based scholarships.
While applying to a graduate program, you may also apply for various BGE funding opportunities:
- Merit-Based Scholarships
- Service-Based Scholarships
- Maryland Tech Council Scholarship – for employees of Maryland Tech Council members
- Lamees Hamdan, M.D., Endowed Scholarship Fund – for students from the United Arab Emirates who are interested in the growth of health care in the UAE
Need-Based Aid
Grants and loans can help you cover the costs of your degree. Visit the Office of Student Financial Aid website to learn about financing your graduate education.
You will apply for need-based aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your aid package will be posted to your GU Experience account, at which point you can accept or decline any available funding.
For more information or assistance with the financial aid process, contact osfsgradfinaid@georgetown.edu.
International Students
Students from outside the United States must adjust to a new country and a different set of financial rules and opportunities. The Office of Global Services’ Financial Aid & Money Matters page offers guidance for funding and paying graduate school expenses.
International students may wish to consider private education loans to meet college expenses. You may be required by the lender to get a credit worthy co-signer who is a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen.
Military and Veterans
Servicemembers and veterans should visit the University Registrar’s Veterans page for guidance on accessing education benefits. You can find further support via Georgetown’s Military and Veterans’ Resource Center and by contacting militarybenefits@georgetown.edu.
Partner Institutions
BGE partners with universities and other institutions around the world. If you are a member of one of these partners, you may be eligible for partial scholarships.
Work and Work-Study
The Student Employment Office is a hub for students seeking hourly jobs on and off campus, including Federal Work-Study (which requires FAFSA submission). Use the office’s HoyaWorks platform to search for open positions.
Georgetown Employees
Georgetown University offers graduate tuition benefits to eligible faculty, staff and AAP employees through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
If you are eligible for TAP, you may also submit our BGE Affiliation- and Recruitment-Based Application Fee Waiver when you apply to one of our programs.
Funding for Current Master’s Students
Many BGE master’s students receive awards from the university and outside organizations, both in support of their work and in recognition of their accomplishments. As a current student, you should consider applying for awards that can help you to recoup research costs and advance your career.
