About Ashley
Ashley is from Mundelein, Illinois. Before coming to Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education, she earned a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University.
How do you hope your graduate studies will build on what you learned as an undergraduate?
I am excited to dive even deeper into complex biological pathways, deepening my understanding of concepts I have learned in the past, taking classes in topics that I haven’t been able to explore yet, and gaining hands-on laboratory experience that will prepare me for an impactful career in research.
Why did you choose your program at Georgetown BGE for your graduate studies?
I chose Georgetown’s M.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology program because I wanted a program that prioritizes both theory and application. The highly rigorous coursework includes hands-on laboratory courses that teach important techniques and skills. Additionally, the program’s Capstone Internship is designed to guide students while conducting their own research project, which grants essential experiences that will be useful for a career in either academia or industry.
What motivates you?
I have a powerful innate desire to understand the world, specifically from a biological perspective. This desire has allowed me to succeed in several different research projects, all of which have fed my excitement about learning new concepts. Each course I take and each project I embark on allows me to view the world from a new perspective, which is so incredibly exciting.
What advice would you give to future BGE students?
Even though the program duration may seem short, be sure to make friends with your classmates. Having friends in your classes can allow you to make study groups, meet people to explore the city with, and have fun during your time in DC!
