How do you approach challenges in your life?
Life comes with ups and downs and I’ve definitely had my fair share. With most challenges, I try to take a step back and understand what is in my control and what is not. I find peace in knowing that some things are out of my control and focusing on the things I can control usually results in a more positive outlook. From there, I tackle the challenge step by step.
What is your academic focus? What sparked your interest in it?
My focus centers around microbial pathogenesis, carcinogenesis, and immunotherapy. I’m also passionate about early cancer detection methods that are especially important for certain tumor types. My interests in these areas sparked from several personal experiences and I wanted to be apart of the spaces and ongoing research that aims to combat the different issues surrounding these topics.
What motivates you?
My family and the scientific community at large motivates me. I have gained so much support in my academic years and I would like to contribute and give back just as much as I have received.
