About Jonathan

Jonathan is from Sandy Spring, Maryland. Before coming to Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education, he attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

How do you hope your graduate studies will benefit you as a civil servant?

The rigorous training I received in the Physiology & Biophysics master’s program deepened my scientific knowledge base. The sections that focused on renal, hematological, and urological physiology and pathology were especially relevant to my role as a program analyst at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The solid background, along with the analytical skills I developed, enables me to approach projects and research initiatives with a more nuanced perspective, allowing me to better support our mission.

Why did you choose Georgetown for your graduate studies?

I chose Georgetown’s Physiology & Biophysics master’s program because of its rigorous, biomedical-focused curriculum and its strong reputation, as it came highly recommended. The program’s objectives aligned closely with my commitment to advancing my career, providing the specialized knowledge and skills I needed to excel. Additionally, its flexible format allowed me to balance my studies with my full-time professional responsibilities.

What do you want to do after earning your degree?

I plan to apply to medical school. My long-term goal is to become a physician-scientist. My early fascination with human physiology, coupled with my personal and professional experiences in healthcare and research, has shaped this desire. My passion for medicine grew as I witnessed the impact of quality healthcare delivery firsthand, particularly during my volunteer work in Ghana and while managing clinical trials at Johns Hopkins. I aspire to work within a multidisciplinary team where I can contribute not only as a physician, but also as a productive researcher who pushes the boundaries of medical knowledge to improve patient outcomes.
