Follow the steps below to apply for graduation.
Note: If you’re not sure about your status, just apply to graduate! There’s no penalty for doing so.
Master’s Degree
- Complete your program requirements. Check your program website and speak with your program leadership to confirm.
- Use the MyDegree audit inside GU Experience (formerly MyAccess) to keep view your academic progress.
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA overall.
- Apply to graduate via GU Experience for the semester in which you will finish your last courses.
- Fall semester graduation application is due by December 1.
- Spring semester graduation application is due by February 1 to have your name appear in the Commencement Book. Final deadline for Spring semester is May 1.
- Summer semester graduation application is due by August 1.
- You may check your graduation application prior to graduation via GU Experience.
- Refer to Diploma Information to find out when you’ll receive your diploma.
- If you will be attending the May Commencement Ceremony:
- Register in MarchingOrder for May Commencement and reserve your severe rain tickets. Instructions will be sent to your GU email.
- Order your academic regalia.
- Review the Commencement Ceremony schedule and details.

Ph.D.
- Complete your program requirements. Check your program website and speak with your program leadership to confirm.

- Fall semester graduation application is due by December 1.
- Spring semester graduation application is due by February 1 to have your name appear in the Commencement Book. Final deadline for Spring semester is May 1.
- Summer semester graduation application is due by August 1.
- Follow the steps for submitting your dissertation, keeping deadlines in mind. All paperwork should be completed in cooperation with your program administrators.
- Submit a Doctoral Dissertation Reviewers’ Report at least one week before your defense.
- Follow your program’s requirements for defense.
- After your successful defense, submit your signed Cover Sheet and ETD.
- Upload a PDF of your dissertation to ProQuest before the upload deadline.
- You may check your graduation application prior to graduation via GU Experience.
