Systems Medicine Director Is Guest Editor for Special Issue on Drug Repurposing

Georgetown University Systems Medicine Program Director Sona Vasudevan is the guest editor of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences special issue, “Drug Repurposing: Emerging Approaches to Drug Discovery.” In her guest editor’s message, Vasudevan describes drug repurposing, “a methodology for identifying new therapeutic uses for existing drugs,” as “a highly efficient and effective strategy” for pursuing breakthroughs in treatment, notably through “the lens of a systems medicine and network medicine approach” and with the support of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.

Vasudevan encourages BGE students and faculty to consider submitting manuscripts to the peer-reviewed, open-access journal. The submission deadline for the special issue is September 23.

The International Journal of Molecular Sciences, established in 2000 and published by Switzerland-based MDPI, “aims to provide a forum for scholarly research on a range of topics, including biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, molecular biophysics, molecular medicine, and all aspects of molecular research in chemistry.”
