About Travis

Travis Day is a student in the Master’s in Biohazardous Threat Agents & Emerging Infectious Diseases program at Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE). He is originally from Ashland, Kentucky and is passionate about national security and biomedical studies!

What made you choose Georgetown University for your M.S. degree?

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, I realized I wanted to pursue a graduate degree that could mesh my science background with my interests in national security and counterterrorism. The Biohazardous Threat Agents and Emerging Infectious Disease program at Georgetown University looked like the perfect program to bridge these interests. This program allows me the opportunity to take interdisciplinary classes like Bioterrorism and Homeland Security. Being in Washington, DC, at a highly-recognized institution, has allowed me to build connections with individuals and career professionals that I would not have had the opportunity to meet anywhere else.

What do you hope to do with your degree?

I hope to use my Master’s Degree to protect the interests of the United States by working in the National Security and Counterterrorism fields.

What sparked your interest in the biomedical field?

I’ve always loved science, from as far back as I can remember. Understanding the mechanisms behind a pathogenic agent enables me to see the threat such agent can pose and then work to mitigate that threat. Knowledge in this field allows me to defend the interests of the United States while pursuing something I love!

If you could make up your own holiday, what would it be and why?

My favorite holiday has always been Christmas – the lights, Christmas trees, and music bring a happiness that no other holiday can. If I could make my own holiday, I would make every day Christmas. The Christmas season sparks a sense of joy and kindness around the world that I wish could be seen more often.

If you had 24 hours to travel anywhere in the US, how would you spend your time?

If I had 24 hours to travel anywhere in the US, I would spend my time exploring Yosemite National Park in California. Yosemite has always been at the top of my bucketlist of places to visit in the US just because of its natural beauty.
