About Kyra

Kyra Hoskin is from Lilburn, Georgia. Before coming to Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Duke University.

What community service activity has meant the most to you?

The most meaningful service activity to me was working at Grace Village, an organization in Clarkston, Georgia, that provides free health care services to local refugee families that lack health insurance. In the future, I hope to continue serving local communities by making health care more accessible and affordable.

What is your academic focus? Why did you choose Georgetown BGE for your graduate studies?

During my undergraduate career I had the opportunity to participate in clinical research and became very passionate about the pursuit of developing new treatments to improve the quality of life of people suffering from disease. I realized that many of these research methods relied on innovative technology like neuroimaging and AI, so I decided to apply to Georgetown to pursue an advanced degree in Biotechnology. Coming from a science background, I wanted to further develop my understanding of the technology that supports scientific research and discovery.

Additionally, this program provides valuable training in the business and management aspects of the biotech industry, which will be critical in my future career. I am motivated by the constant discovery and innovation within the biotech industry and hope to use the skills that I gain during this program to contribute to the continued efforts to develop better diagnostic techniques and therapeutics for diseases and disabilities across the globe.

I would encourage future students in this program to find an area of biotech that motivates them and continue to push the boundaries of discovery. Georgetown is an amazing university with numerous resources including supportive faculty and a vast alumni network. The Biomedical Graduate Education program is an ideal place to continue your education, pursue knowledge in your chosen academic discipline, and further your career development.
