About Michael

Michael is from Syracuse, New York. Before coming to Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education, Michael earned a B.S. in Biology from the University at Albany (SUNY). Michael is studying for an M.S. in Biotechnology on the BioBusiness Track.

What community service activity has meant the most to you?

I loved serving my campus community as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician at the University at Albany’s student-run Emergency Medical Services agency. Supporting my campus community in times of crisis and distress was extremely fulfilling, as health is everyone’s top priority, so being able to contribute to helping my fellow classmates get better was really special.

Why did you choose Georgetown for your graduate studies?

Georgetown’s M.S in Biotechnology has an extremely diverse curriculum with a strong business, regulatory, and science core, along with room to take fantastic electives. Having such a variety of classes, Georgetown creates an all-encompassing educational experience for us, allowing students to learn all of the different aspects of the biotechnology industry. The curriculum is committed to fostering relationships among our cohort, which is an invaluable part of my student experience and future career aspirations.

What do you want to do after earning your degree?

After earning my degree, I plan on pursuing my M.D. degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University. I aim to apply my knowledge from this program to the hospital setting to help bring emerging and innovative therapies to patients. While physicians understand the healthcare system and science, having an entrepreneurial edge and understanding how to navigate the biotechnology landscape will hopefully help me transform the field of medicine.

What advice would you give to future BGE students?

Don’t forget the importance of hard work and sheer effort. While we all start at different places, each one of us has the potential to end up on the same mountaintop. Results are dependent on how much effort you put in to get there.

Also, stay true to yourselves. Having a unique identity and personality is something to embrace and will help you identify the right people to surround yourself with.
