About Tsegie

Tsegie is from Silver Spring, Maryland. Before coming to Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education, she earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and a master’s in Occupational Therapy from Howard University.

How do you approach challenges in your life?

I focus on breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps, using my problem-solving and analytical skills. I also seek support when needed, whether through collaboration or learning new approaches.

How do you support diversity and cultural understanding?

I actively listen, remain open-minded, and engage with different perspectives to foster inclusivity and empathy in both personal and professional settings.

What motivates you?

I deeply value the opportunities my parents gave me by immigrating to the U.S. Seeing their hard work motivates me to push myself every day. I’m also driven by my two kids, wanting to show them the importance of working hard for what they want in life.

What is your academic focus?

My experience as a military officer in healthcare sparked my interest in data. My clinical background helped me see the gaps in healthcare, and now I aim to bridge those gaps using both my clinical and technical skills.

What advice would you give to future BGE students?

Always do your own research – don’t rely on what others say. Work hard and take every opportunity to pursue your dreams.
